抄録・概要
生物の有機的運動をとらえる際には、生物をその外部から眺める「生命外的観点」だけでなく、内面から眺める「生命外的観点」が必要であろう。ユクスキュルの「環境世界」論は、動物について後者の観点の重要性を強調した古典な研究である。本稿では、まずこの研究の意義が、「生きた主体」こそ動物考察の中心的視点にすえられるべきと主張した点にあることを確認する。その上で環境世界論の含意を生命システムそのものに拡張しようと試みる。生命システムは作動することを通じてたえず自己を産出し続け、この過程の中で自分の境界を設定するのであって、この境界は観察者によって設定されるものではない。その過程において生命システムは自分の同一性を維持すると同時に、固有の「環境世界」を創出する。この自己創出的システムはさらに自己維持するシステムとして、自己とこれに適合した環境世界を参照しながら、システムの構造を高次化してゆくことを特徴とする。
To understand the process of living systems needs not only the external but also the internal approach to the living. Jacob von Uexkull rightly says that an animal is not an object but a living subject that has its own Umwelt or specific universe that is fit for its own structure. The article has tried to apply Uexkull's Umwelt-theory to the process of living systems and to understand this process as that which produces the systems themselves. In this approach we will find that their operation specifies their own boundaries in the process of self-production. It is not an observer but the dynamic self-production of the systems that constitutes the distinction that defines the systems themselves and moreover their specific universes. Furthermore living systems change their environment and so their specific universes referring tothemselves, and according to the changes of their universes they transform themselves.
