低学力時代の大学生の英語の誤り

The English proficiency level of university students has been falling at an alarming speed for the past few years. English teachers are presented with basic errors they have scarcely encountered before. It is time we faced this challenge and analyzed such errors as well as explored ways to reverse this tendency. But understanding errors is no simple task. There are multiple conditions and factors to take into account before we start discussing this problem. This paper first examines research into errors and discusses important findings in this field. It focuses especially on Error Analysis studies and its limits. Following this, errors from English journals written by Japanese university students over three years are examined in detail and its findings discussed. Questionnaire was also conducted to understand some of the causes of these errors.
